It’s easy to forget that your HVAC system needs space to breathe — until efficiency suddenly drops. Recently, Chatterbox detected a change in airflow characteristics and noticed that one unit’s performance was slipping. When our technician investigated, the cause was simple but surprising: a large piece of furniture had been placed in front of the return vent.
When air returns are blocked, your system can’t circulate air properly. This restriction makes the blower work harder, reduces cooling and heating efficiency, and can even cause temperature swings from room to room. Over time, it can lead to higher energy use and unnecessary strain on motors and components.
Chatterbox spotted the issue before it turned into a costly repair. By analyzing pressure and airflow data, it identified that the system was “breathing heavy.” After the return vent was cleared, efficiency readings immediately returned to normal — proving how sensitive and effective our monitoring system is at protecting both comfort and equipment.
